On the 23rd of May I am releasing a track called Unique. And it is not what you would expect from me.
I came across Artem Dermendzhiev through a friend’s Instagram stories. She was recommending him, I noticed his work, wrote to him the same day. We started making this track almost immediately after that.
The process was different to anything I had done before. Artem built a minimal canvas, just rhythm and space, and I walked around it for a while, trying melodies, writing lines, sending back voice notes with rough vocal ideas. He kept adding layers. It built itself gradually, back and forth, and surprisingly quickly.
The reference was Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco. That summer feeling, light and a little flirtatious, built for movement rather than sitting still. The lyrics go that way too. Nothing complicated. Just that particular mood when you notice someone and can not quite stop thinking about it.
Friends I played it to said it sounds like something you would hear in a good lounge bar somewhere warm. I will take that.
Electronic genre, which is new territory for me. Unexpected music, as promised.
