Something incredible happened this week. My interview with Sub-Cult magazine went live, and reading it back gave me chills in the best possible way. There’s something magical about seeing your thoughts reflected through someone else’s words – especially when those words capture not just what you said, but what you meant.
The conversation felt different from the start. Instead of surface-level questions, they dove straight into the emotional core of what I do. They wanted to understand the journey behind На весь мир (To the Whole World), my new EP that represents such a personal milestone in both language and artistic growth.
When they asked about the shifting moods throughout the album – how hope alternates with warnings that nothing lasts forever – I found myself articulating something I’d felt but never quite put into words: “I think good and family win.”
The interview forced me to examine my own creative process more deeply. Explaining how “some songs were born right in Vlad’s Chuvakam studio from scratch, some during musical jams and rap sessions” reminded me how organic this album felt. There was no forced concept – just honest exploration of what was happening in my life and heart.
What struck me most was discussing the central theme running through every track. As I told them, “In every song there’s a hint of light and rebirth after pain.” This isn’t accidental – it’s simply how I experience life. Even in darkness, something in me searches for the possibility of healing and growth.
The journalists understood that На весь мир isn’t just about romantic love. It’s about “love and devotion. Understanding values such as family, relationships, any kind: friendly, romantic, it doesn’t matter.” The album explores how connection sustains us through difficulty.
Talking about working with Vladislav Mazur felt especially meaningful. Three years of collaboration has created genuine artistic partnership based on trust and shared vision. “Working with Vlad means confidence in the final product. It’s beauty and refinement. It’s when you are heard.”
Recording primarily in Russian for the first time allowed new emotional depths to emerge. “I was very pleased to compose in Russian and arrange lines into verses and choruses,” I shared. There’s something about your native language that cuts straight to emotional truth.
When they asked me to describe my music for newcomers – always the hardest question – I settled on: “My music is about believing in yourself, first and foremost. And about love for others. It’s indie rock, and synthpop, and experimental. Sometimes shoegaze. It’s about dancing and crying. To each their own.”
The journalists picked up on Vlad’s production philosophy for this project: “This album is art for art’s sake. Without looking back at genres and trends.” This freed us to follow emotional logic rather than commercial expectations.
What moved me most was their understanding of the album’s emotional arc – from playful flirtation through summer romance to pain and disappointment, ultimately resolving in faith and hope. When they asked for the one line that captures the album’s essence, my answer came immediately: “You know, your love would be enough for the whole world.”
The conversation about my upcoming concert brought out my nervous excitement: “Oh, of course I’m nervous. Will you come? Please come. It will be fun, slightly drunk, and most importantly we’ll give you quality music!”
This interview experience reminded me how rare it is to feel truly understood by journalists. The Sub-Cult team didn’t just ask questions; they listened and grasped the deeper currents running through my work. They captured not just the surface details, but the emotional foundation that drives everything I create.
