Russian crept back into my songwriting, and I’m still processing why. ‘Там, Где Ты’ emerged during a particularly restless period—one of those nights when guitar strings felt like the only honest conversation available.
The repetition wasn’t planned. ‘Там где ты, там где ты’—it just kept spilling out, becoming this almost hypnotic mantra about emotional geography. Sometimes lyrics choose their own rhythm, and this one demanded space to breathe between each phrase.
Writing in Russian felt like accessing a different emotional register. English gives me precision, but Russian carries weight differently. ‘Там, где ты’ holds more than just ‘where you are’—it contains longing, absence, the specific ache of being somewhere else entirely.
The bridge about wanting change versus wanting to change someone—that section wrote itself in one sitting. Relationships often become these strange negotiations where neither person ends up where they started, but somehow you’ve both moved further apart instead of closer.
What surprises me most is how the song functions live. Those repetitive sections that felt almost excessive on paper create this communal breathing space during performance. Audiences lean into the rhythm, even without understanding every word.
Sometimes songs capture feelings you didn’t realise you were carrying. ‘Там, Где Ты’ became that kind of track—a three-minute exploration of what it means to search for someone who might not want to be found.
